Go, Jump in the Tub!

My first recollections of cleaning up as a little child, living on a farm in rural Iowa, was of my mother telling me to go 'jump in the tub'. I loved taking a bath, especially if there were toys floating in it! As I got older, I rarely took a bath because showers were quicker and did the same job. Later, as a busy mommy, I discovered the luxury of settling into warm, scented "Bubble Baths"! So rare but relaxingly wonderful ... until I'd hear "Mommmmmeeeeeee!"

Many people plan relaxing vacations to resorts around the world that were built around hot springs, rich with minerals and therapeutic properties. They enjoy the naturally warmed mineral waters bubbling into beautiful pools of water. These waters have varying amounts and kinds of minerals, attracting people with different types of ailments, looking for some relief.

Verbal testimonies began with Native Americans from centuries ago and continues today as visitors from all over the world come to mineral springs seeking healing, relaxation, and rejuvenation. The first published testimony to the healing benefits of mineral springs came from Dr. J. L. Weaver in 1890, a U.S. Army Surgeon who brought many chronically ill soldiers to the Great Pagosa Hot Springs in Colorado for research study. He stated, "The cures reported by those who have been afflicted are really wonderful. Rheumatism, stomach trouble, blood and kidney diseases have been permanently relieved by use of these waters, without the aid of a physician. Sciatica and chronic cases of long standing rheumatism have been instantly relieved by taking the hot white mud baths, a deposit formed by the overflow from the Pagosa, or "Healing Water," as the word signifies in the Ute language."

The minerals contained in these "healing waters" are sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, lithium carbonate, potassium carbonate, iron protoxide, manganese protoxide, calcium fluoride, calcium phosphide, and silica.
